Intralipotherapy (AKA Fat dissolving injections) is a treatment which involves a specific injection technique developed for the treatment of localised fat deposits that are not resolved by dietary measures.

It uses a formulation called sodium deoxycholate which is injected directly into the adipose (fat) tissue to actively break down lipids (fats) under the skin, allowing your body to excrete it naturally as you would dietary fats.

The treatment is suitable for face and body areas, including double chin, jowls, abdomen, love handles, flanks, inner and outer thighs, knees, bingo wings and more. 

The best effects are achieved in patients with normal weight or those who are slightly overweight with a local accumulation of stubborn fat. Results are permanent if no further weight is gained and it is a suitable treatment for those stubborn areas that diet and exercise just won’t budge, but is not an alternative to a healthy diet and exercise. 

The drug is injected into fatty areas where it liquefies fat cells, destroying them permanently. Fats are then eliminated by the kidneys.

Each treatment takes up to eight weeks to show the full result and larger areas will require between three and six sessions (one every two months) to see optimal results.

After marking the areas of unwanted fat deposits, the skin is disinfected and the solution is injected by a cannula or needle directly into the fat tissue. Local anaesthetic is added to the fat dissolving solution to reduce any discomfort, however there is likely to be some minor pain during the procedure and some tenderness for a few days afterwards. Most people describe this as minimal discomfort and it does not tend to interfere with normal day to day activities.

Painkillers can be taken following treatment if required.

After treatment, you will be able to return to your daily activities. You may feel a very light burning sensation, itching or tenderness, this is quite normal and nothing to worry about.

There may be visible redness and swelling over the next few days. The skin will be slightly painful and tender with some bruising. This is a normal reaction and resolves quickly.

Pressure garments are recommended during the first 2-3 days to reduce swelling and aid recovery
Avoid physical exercise, exposure to direct heat (sauna, sun) or severe cold and anti-inflammatory drugs ( ibuprofen) for 4/5 days following treatment.

This treatment would be considered a very low risk procedure. DesoBody/Face contains the active ingredient sodium deoxycholate (deoxycholic acid) which is scientifically studied and FDA- approved, medical detergent to break down fat cells. It has been shown to be safer, more effective and more comfortable than other older fat dissolvers on the market. However, as with any injection procedure there are potential adverse events, including skin ulceration and necrosis, allergy, nodules persisting for longer than 6 weeks and unsatisfactory result. Such adverse events can generally be prevented or minimised by adhering to correct technique, depth, treatment interval and dose of product.
