High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Treatments

HIFU Treatments

Saggy Jowels, Double Chin, Drooping Brows, Loose Skin on the Face, Neck & Body

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a treatment to reduce the telltale signs of ageing. This is a non-invasive and innovative alternative to a surgical facelift and is also a good treatment for those who have had surgery and would like to rejuvenate some of the effects. However, it is a non-surgical procedure and therefore cannot be expected to give the results of a surgical facelift.

The procedure is a very effective treatment to lift and tighten a sagging jawline, neck, cheeks and brows. HIFU results can be seen after one treatment, leaving you with a rejuvenated and more healthy, youthful appearance. Every person differs and will see results at different times. As always, results will vary from person to person and are different depending on age, recovery time, diet, lifestyle and medical history.

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Treatments Frequently Asked Questions

HIFU is a non-surgical skin treatment used to tighten, smooth, and firm your skin. It works by delivering precise Ultrasound waves to the correct depths of the skin to lift and tighten skin safely without damaging the epidermal layer. HIFU can penetrate and affect the superficial layer of the skin, the dermis and the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, or SMAS. HIFU energy quickly causes the targeted tissue in the lower levels of the skin to warm up, creating something called a thermal injury which tricks the body into repair mode thus stimulating the body’s natural healing process and an increase in elastin and collagen regeneration.

Hifu has a unique ability to protect the skin surface, while precisely targeting and penetrating beyond the dermis and foundation layers, where structural weakening starts (SMAS).

Having been used for over 50 years in the medical field, ultrasound has a proven track record and is clinically safe making HIFU one of the safest skin tightening treatments available.

HIFU is suitable for most people with mild to moderate skin sagging. Best results are seen in the 30 – 60 age bracket with the 40s and 50s being the most common age groups to undergo HIFU, but it is also suitable for over 60s as long as skin laxity is not too great.

Pregnant or breast-feeding, heart conditions or Pacemaker, skin thinning medication within 6 months (Roaccutane), people with infections and open skin lesions at the target area, severe or cystic acne, and metallic implants in the treatment area. Older people with extensive photo-ageing, severe skin laxity, or very saggy skin on the neck aren't good candidates and may need surgery.

There may be mild redness and or tenderness; this should fade within a few days and is often not particularly noticeable. We recommend reducing alcohol intake, avoiding hot showers or baths immediately after treatment and drinking more water. Wear a good sunscreen to avoid the risk of hyperpigmentation from the sun’s rays.

For some clients, you will be able to see instant tightening and toning of the skin, due to the instant contraction of the SMAS layer. However, the collagen generated after a HIFU treatment needs time to weave its magic, and results will continue to improve over time. In around 2 to 3 months good results will show and your improvements will carry into month 6 post treatment.

This depends on the clients’ age and skin condition. Even though one treatment may be enough on a person with light to moderate skin laxity, others may benefit from additional treatments. A common protocol could involve 2 to 3 sessions spaced 3-4 months apart, although benefits will be seen after one treatment. This schedule allows your skin to gradually respond to the collagen-stimulating effects of HIFU. Over time, the rejuvenating benefits become increasingly noticeable as collagen production ramps up.

The results continue improving for up to 3-6 months. You will have a younger, fresher appearance for around 12-24 months, after which time, follow up treatments are recommended to maintain results.
